ROUND

Math & Aggregationbeginner

ROUND adjusts a number to the precision you specify. Positive num_digits rounds decimals (2 = cents), zero rounds to integers, negative rounds to tens/hundreds/thousands. Essential for financial reporting where precision matters and for avoiding floating-point display issues.

Syntax

Excel:=ROUND(number, num_digits)

Google Sheets: Same syntax

Parameters

numberThe number to round.

num_digitsThe number of decimal places. 0 = integer, positive = decimal places, negative = tens/hundreds/thousands.

? = optional parameter

Worked Example

Round the average invoice amount to the nearest dollar.

ROUND takes the visible example value 5,019.57 and rounds it to 0 decimal places. In this sample, that returns 5,020.
