MAX

Math & Aggregationbeginner

MAX scans a range and returns the single highest value. Simple but essential for finding peaks, record values, and outliers. Often combined with IF or INDEX/MATCH to find which row contains the maximum.

Syntax

Excel:=MAX(number1, [number2], ...)

Google Sheets: Same syntax

Parameters

number1The first number, cell reference, or range.

number2?Additional numbers or ranges.

? = optional parameter

MAX scans the amount values in B2 through B7 and returns the largest one. In this sample, the highest visible invoice amount is $18,750.00.
