UPPER / LOWER / PROPER

Three related formulas for standardizing text case. UPPER converts everything to capitals, LOWER to all lowercase, PROPER capitalizes the first letter of each word. Critical for data cleaning when source data has inconsistent casing.

Syntax

Excel:=UPPER(text) / =LOWER(text) / =PROPER(text)

Google Sheets: =UPPER(text) / =LOWER(text) / =PROPER(text)

=PROPER(A2)

Result

Cloudline Software

PROPER converts the text in A2 to title case, so 'cloudline SOFTWARE' becomes 'Cloudline Software'. In the same sample row, B2 shows the UPPER version and C2 shows the LOWER version.
