OR

Logicalbeginner

OR evaluates multiple conditions and returns TRUE when at least one is met. The counterpart to AND — where AND requires all conditions, OR requires just one. Commonly used inside IF for 'either/or' logic.

Syntax

Excel:=OR(logical1, [logical2], ...)

Google Sheets: Same syntax

Parameters

logical1The first condition.

logical2?Additional conditions.

? = optional parameter

Worked Example

Check if an invoice is either Pending OR Overdue (i.e., not yet paid).

Formula

=OR(B2="Pending", B2="Overdue")

Result

FALSE

OR checks whether B2 is either 'Pending' or 'Overdue'. In row 2, B2 contains 'Paid', so neither condition is true and the formula returns FALSE.
